Lydia Stannard
Tribute
Lydia’s story is one of resilience and determination. Born in Puerto Rico, she faced challenges early in life. After losing her father at a young age, her mother was left to care for nine children. Despite these hardships, Lydia grew up surrounded by the love of her family. Although she had an independent spirit, she always made her family a priority. Lydia pursued her education at the University of Puerto Rico, focusing on Accounting and Secretarial Studies—a foundation that would pave the way for her successful future. With the encouragement of her older brother and widowed mother, she bravely ventured to New York, Virginia, and eventually California. Throughout her career, Lydia held several impressive roles. She served as Controller for Health Information Designs, Corporate Accountant for Evaluation Research Corporation, and Accounting Manager for Golden West Tech Services. However, her proudest professional achievement was becoming the head bookkeeper for the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was during her time with the Dodgers that she met her husband, Louis Stannard. Lydia even had the opportunity to participate in Danny Goodman’s Dodgers advertisements, where she embraced the limelight and celebrations. Despite her success, Lydia never forgot her roots or the sacrifices her family made for her. She shared her achievements with them, bringing joy and pride to her mother and older brother, who were able to visit and celebrate her happiness together. Lydia had a gift for making people feel welcome. She was an exceptional hostess, a talented cook, and always ensured that guests felt at home. Her quick wit and love for a good poker game added to her charm and lively spirit. After retiring, Lydia moved to Florida, where her independent and outspoken nature shone brightly in her final years. She left a legacy of love, perseverance, and joy that continues to inspire those who knew her.
