Kim Hernandez
Tribute
Kim died peacefully surrounded by family in Hospice on July 28, 2024, after a 15-month diagnosis with glioblastoma. Kim and her twin sister Kay were the first babies born on the New Year in Pueblo, CO on January 1, 1958. Kim grew up in the Westminster area and graduated from Westminster High School. After marrying Daniel Hernandez and having 2 of her 4 children, she attended Front Range Community College and graduated with a R.N. Degree. Kim’s life was dedicated to caring for people with health concerns. She earned her CRRN, specializing in Rehabilitation Nursing with a passion for Neurology. She worked at University Hospital in the Neuro-Rehab Unit for many years. Her excellence in nursing and kind, compassionate care earned her the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award for Nursing. After 40+ years of nursing, she retired from University Hospital. Kim continued her “retirement” working in the home health field helping patients in the comfort of their own homes. Kim had an unwavering commitment to her family. Her children and grandchildren were a source of love and pride. Her favorite time spent was going to grandchildren’s sports activities, dance recitals, and horse shows. She was looking forward to her oldest granddaughter’s graduation with a LPN degree and her newest granddaughter’s upcoming birth. Kim’s life was all too short but she leaves a lasting legacy for the lives she has impacted with her love and kindness. Her Christian faith influenced her outlook on life and helped her through this last challenge. The impact of Kim’s life will live on through her family and friends' memories. Her desire to help other lives with her donation to medical research led her to choose Science Care.
