Tribute

Herb was a father, husband, and friend to many. He was proud to serve in the army as a graduate of West Point, class of 1958! Herb had an interesting and accomplished military career, which took him to Vietnam, Germany, and later settling in the Washington DC area where he also served at the Pentagon. Prior to his death at 88, he bravely dealt with Parkinsons Disease for over 30 years. Even though Parkinsons took its toll on his body, Herb kept fighting the progression of his disease and remained calm and cheerful despite his symptoms and the debilitating signs that Parkinson's can cause. He remained curious and interested in the world around him. And he dealt openly with the grief of losing his partner in life and wife of 63 years, Betty, who preceded him in death on January 20, 2023. Unfortunately, Herb was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer in June 2024. After exploring his cancer treatment options, he chose palliative radiation. We believe this treatment helped him live his remaining life with the best quality and minimal pain possible. Both Herb and Betty chose to donate their bodies to Science Care as their last loving acts. ❤️❤️
