Harry Breitbach
Tribute
Harry was born in Takoma Park, Maryland on September 6, 1929. He lived with his parents and brother Bill at 2016 Otis St. NE, Washington D.C. The family had no car and depended on public transportation. When Harry was graduated from McKinley Tech High School he rode the street car to the end of the line in Maryland and walked to Citizens Bank to apply for a job. He was hired as a runner in 1947. Harry worked his way up in the bank at the same time the bank grew with branches. He attended the American Institute of Banking and other bank sponsored schools - became a branch manager, vice president, and Assistant to the President. After 41 years he retired. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the U. S. Army completing the Counter Intelligence Corps School. Outside of "work" Harry was very busy on the golf course and in the bowling alley. He led the league with his low average. He was a member of the Maryland Interclub Seniors Golf Association where he served as treasurer for eight years. Numbers and dollars were always an interest. He volunteered as an offering counter in each of the churches he attended in Maryland and Colorado. He enjoyed traveling to South Dakota every summer to spend time at the lake cabins with all of the South Dakota family. There were many games of Monopoly and cards played with all of the family there. Fun activities after retirement included volunteer tax preparation at the senior center in Ocala Florida, playing bridge, and gin rummy, and spending time with the horses. His last game of gin was just ten days before his death when he beat his wife!
