Tribute

Gabriel Cedillo III, born in El Paso, Texas, peacefully joined Jesus in heaven on January 18, 2025, in Atascadero, California. A devoted husband, father, minister, and musician, he was the eldest of nine siblings and the cherished son of Gabriel Cedillo Jr. and Tommie (Torres) Cedillo. He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Barbara Lynn Shrader; the two met in Pasadena and married in 1964, embarking on a life filled with love, and ministry. Gabe’s early education began in El Paso, Texas, where he developed a passion for music. He participated in choral groups, church choirs, and the high school marching band, where he quickly took on the role of Drum Major. He pursued higher education at Pasadena College, now known as Point Loma Nazarene University. Later, he furthered his studies at the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music in Michigan, deepening his understanding of God’s word and strengthening his love for ministry. A devoted servant of the Lord, Gabriel dedicated his life to church service as an ordained minister. He was known for sharing his musical gifts at social, community, political, and religious events, inspiring and uplifting others through faith and song. His greatest passion was serving the Lord through his voice. Gabriel was a loving father to his four daughters: Sara, Regina, Maria, and Deanna (DeeDee). He welcomed his sons-in-law into the family with open arms. His legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren and their spouses—Brooke (Zackery), Moriah, Landon (Evelyn), Gabriel (Kimberly), Elijah, Jeremiah, Rose, Chloe, Mia, Noah (Gabriella), Ripley, and Sefton. Gabriel was further blessed with eight great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Bobbi) in November 2013. In 2017, Gabriel found love again and married Patricia McPhedrain of Comox, British Columbia. Sadly, Patricia passed away just months into their marriage. Among his siblings, Gabriel was preceded in death by David, JD, Diana (Jeanine), Joe, and Naomi. He is survived by his siblings Thelma, Steve, and Rick Cedillo, along with a host of extended family, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunties.
