Elmer Carlberg

Elmer was born and raised in Odebolt, Iowa. He studied at Kansas University, Laurence, Kansas; received a B.A. degree from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa; and received a Master's Degree from National College of Education, Evanston, Illinois. He met the love of his life while attending Morningside College. They were married for more than 70 years and raised 5 children in Wheeling, Illinois, where the couple settled following his service in the U.S. Navy (ret. Lieutenant, J.G.) Organizations and memberships: Elder of Presbyterian Church, Sunday School Teacher, VFW, National Education Association, Exceptional Children Education Association, Illinois Education Association, Wheeling Education Association, U.S. Naval Reserve (retired,) National Thespian Society. Military Service Record: Personnel work on Destroyer USS Uhlmann off Japan - 1952, Officers Candidate School - 1952, Line Officer - Hospital Ship USS Repose off Korea - 1952 - 1954, Executive Officer - Military Sea Transportation Service - runs to Panama and Germany 1954, Regimental Commander at Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes 1954 - 1955, Released to inactive duty in July 1955, Resigned commission July 1960. His final selfless act was his donation to Science Care, for the advancement of knowledge in science.
