David Gonzales
Tribute
Dave Gonzales was an artist, designer, and a creative; a humanist; a seeker of knowledge with an ear for every man; a believer in family, and a storyteller worthy of several books. Dave enjoyed magic, melancholy music, and movies, especially westerns. Listening to the sound of women laughing and talking warmed him. Male bonding came via family dinners, bars, and lunches. Dave spent his eighty-three years gathering life lessons and taught and encouraged others to learn one new thing each year. He survived hunger, dangerous friends, dishonest employers, and condescending peers without turning bitter. Rather he channeled his knowledge in an attempt to help those both inside and outside his family. He played the role of a two-way mirror, and through his unbelievable tales was able to show people that it was alright to be a flawed human. Dave was proud, Buddha-like, and took on the challenge of learning through reading some very difficult and demanding scientific books. He was a subtle and patient mentor and was always willing to help anyone willing to listen to him. Dave was so giving that as a birthday present to his wife Bev, he agreed to do the cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping alongside his son for an entire year! Dave shared his world of graphic design, invited Linda, a friend, into his family and as she put it “will always be a crucial chapter in my own book of life.” All who met David are very fortunate to have shared a moment in time with him.
