Cheryl Kingsburg
Tribute
My mom was born and raised in East New York, in the Jewish projects of Brooklyn. Her parents, Bob and Edith Kingsburg, were also born and raised in Brooklyn. Cheryl’s was a creative and beautiful soul. She was a part of some crazy photo shoots with the irreverent National Lampoon crowd, in 1960’s NYC. Cheryl developed interest in early childhood education and became a Montessori teacher in the 1970’s. She was wonderful with children and connected with them on a very special level. Cheryl had a great eye for photography, and was awarded and exhibited at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She worked as a professional photographer on Palm Beach, photographing high profile individuals such as Wynton Marsalis. She valued the old school art of developing photos in a dark room, whenever she was able. Cheryl eventually worked as a job recruiter and had her own company, placing food scientists in various roles. She was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s at the age of 59, and struggled for over the next decade until her passing this year. My mother instilled me with the beautiful gifts of yoga and transcendental meditation practices, feminism, and belief in myself. She will be greatly missed. May her memory be a blessing.
