Tribute

In loving memory of Catherine Grace Gerona, a remarkable and vivacious woman whose generosity and strength continue to inspire us all. Catherine leaves behind her beloved sons, grandchildren, and countless family members and friends. She was the youngest of 6 children. Following the loss of their mother shortly before Catherine’s 2nd birthday, Catherine’s older sisters became her maternal role models. She also had a brother whom she cherished and protected. Having almost 9 years of age difference with her oldest sibling, Catherine learned early how to keep up and be tough. And though she was, she would never back down from anything or anyone. She faced life's challenges head-on, navigating through the unknown with a determination that touched everyone who knew her. Despite encountering hurdles and making a few detours along the way, she never faltered in her commitment to her family and her values. Catherine had a heart of gold. She was very generous. Even when she had little, that little was easily shared. She was a master crafter making all kinds of things from extravagant leis, dream catchers, crochet, painting masterpieces that she shared with family and friends. Catherine was generous with her time, nurturing love, and humor. Her unwavering love and support for her loved ones was never questioned. She welcomed all with open arms, a soft shoulder to lean on, and kind words to hear. She was the heart and soul of her family, the one who could always be counted on to bring joy to any gathering and whose warmth could make any stranger feel seen, heard, and loved. In her early 60s, Catherine transitioned on her final journey, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love, and laughter. Her decision to donate her body to science reflects the depth of her compassion and her desire to make a difference, even beyond her time here with us. It's a fitting gesture for a woman who always sought to understand and contribute to the world around her. We remember Catherine, or as her grandchildren would lovingly call her, “Tutu,” not only for her strength and resilience but also for her irrepressible spirit and sense of humor. Her stubbornness, which often brought a smile to our faces, was a testament to her unwavering dedication to what she believed in. She was quick to find laughter in the middle of life's obscenity and challenges, reminding us to embrace both the light and the dark with grace and humor. As we say our farewell and see you soon, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on, not only in the memories we cherish but also in the invaluable contribution she has made to science and the greater good. She may have left this world physically, but her spirit endures in the lives she touched and the lessons she imparted. May she rest in peace and love. Her light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever as she taught us, “Family Over Everything. Where life begins & love never ends. Days to remember - Always & Forever."

Friends & Family

We will always be grateful & love you from the bottom of our hearts. Love Always, Your Ohana
