Benny Leach
Tribute
Benny Melvin Leach was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, colleague, culinary instructor, artist, chef, and mentor who was generous with his time and extraordinary skills. Beyond the accolades and awards he earned, his selfless contributions to his community made Benny just feel good. His children and grandchildren enjoyed his support and humor in good times and bad, which allowed them to feel loved and safe. Benny taught all his sons to cook, how to camp, and the basics of car care and home repair, all skills that seem rare today and are all the more precious because he passed on his knowledge of them. He was native to Arizona and explored the state from top to bottom, including hiking the Grand Canyon and camping on the Mogollon Rim. He shared a love of world cuisines and music with everyone around him, taking them to new places by plate and by ear. Benny battled cancer once and won; even though he understood his second cancer bout could not be won, he volunteered to participate in a clinical trial that may eventually result in a cure. For his last act of charity, he donated his body for research. All who remain behind will miss him greatly, but Benny will be there at every meal and concert. We love you, and toast you, Benny.
